Yvonne O'Sullivan

Dental Hygienist
RDH, BSc

Yvonne has over 25 years of experience in the dental profession beginning as a dental nurse. In 2009 she qualified in dental hygiene from the Dublin Dental School and Hospital. As a dental hygienist, she has worked in a multi-disciplinary practice (Northumberland Institute of Dental Medicine, Dublin) for a number of years and St James Hospital in the Cleft Lip and Palate Unit. It was in these practices that she gained vast experience treating and or maintaining periodontal disease (gum disease), and maintenance of complex dental implant cases.

Since 2016, she has taught part time as a dental hygiene tutor at the Dublin Dental University & Hospital.

She ensures she keeps up to date with the latest research and products by investing in attending conferences and through ensuring the purchase of new equipment and products, this provides the highest standard of care for patients, based not only on recent research, but also through networking with colleagues at these conferences and the sharing of information.

Yvonne works closely with the in-house dentists to ensure they are made aware of any dental changes or queries patients may have. She also collaborates with external specialists including periodontists (gum specialists) and a dietician, who all assist her with the patient’s overall general and dental health to ensure the optimum outcome following treatment.

In 2022, Yvonne completed a Degree Completion Course in Oral Health Promotion. Research has shown for decades that dental disease, be it dental caries (tooth decay) or periodontal disease (gum disease) is preventable or controlled from progressing further by specific oral hygiene practices at home. If the patient is committed to caring for their teeth and gums, in between the visits with Yvonne, dental disease progression can be prevented.
